What is Hearing Loss?
The term hearing loss is used when audiometric tests show that your child is not responding to sounds at loudness levels that are considered normal. Hearing loss can be caused by a number of different conditions, ranging from hereditary to medical, and it does not necessarily mean a child is unable to hear anything at all. There are varying degrees of hearing loss, ranging from mild to moderate, severe and profound. Only an audiometric diagnosis can determine for certain if your child has a hearing loss and to what degree.
