Your Child's Hearing Aids

Batteries

Your child’s hearing aid batteries may last anywhere from several days to several weeks, depending on use. Encourage your child to turn off the hearing aids when they’re not in use to preserve the batteries. If your child is outside your care during the day, make sure he or she has a spare set of batteries in case the batteries run out during the day. Your child and/or his or her teacher should be taught how to change the batteries.

Store batteries in a dry, safe location away from children and pets (not in the refrigerator).

Replace dead batteries immediately.

All batteries can be hazardous if swallowed. If a battery is swallowed, call a physician immediately.

Always discard batteries carefully.
