Beryl is an experienced hearing device wearer. She has had a hearing loss for 17 years. All this time, she has only ever worn In-the-Ear hearing instruments because she wanted a device that was discreet: “I didn’t want people to see that I wore hearing aids.” Based on the types of Behind-the-Ear (BTE) hearing devices Beryl had seen in the past, she thought that BTE hearing instruments were large, clunky, and easily visible. However, Beryl changed her mind when she started to wear her Next 4 Moxi BTE hearing devices: “I couldn’t believe how small the hearing aid was. People didn’t know that I was wearing hearing aids unless I pointed it out to them.”

Although Beryl wanted small hearing devices, her hearing devices had to have the reliability to enable her to hear people talking to her. She found that her previous hearing instruments did not adequately enhance the level of speech. Hearing clearly was very important in her job at an insurance company: “With the white noise of the office building’s ventilation fans and the background noise from other employees, I had a difficult time hearing conversations with my colleagues and found it difficult distinguishing between similar sounding words. I had to constantly ask clients to repeat the details of their vehicles to ensure the insurance coverage was accurate.”
With her Next hearing instruments, Beryl does not have any problems hearing conversations.
She reports that she can now hear her four grandchildren clearly: “Previously, my grandchildren would
have to repeat themselves for me to hear them. Now, they don’t have to repeat themselves and I can even
hear their squawking bird.” Beryl has also noticed that she and her husband can finally watch television
together without having to increase the volume to an uncomfortable level.

One of the other
challenges that Beryl faced with her previous hearing devices was
the constant whistling she would hear: “Every time one of my grandchildren hugged me, my hearing aids
would start to whistle; it was very irritating. However, my Next hearing aids have never whistled when
I hug my grandchildren.”
Beryl is very pleased with her Next hearing instruments and has found that they have helped to improve her quality of life: “With my old hearing aids, I found myself withdrawing from social events. I was embarrassed by having to ask people to constantly repeat themselves. However, with my Next hearing aids, I am more active socially. I can hear conversations easily, even if there is a lot of background noise. I would highly recommend these hearing aids.”
