U.shell: Custom Innovation with Digital Precision
U.shell™, currently available for the US market, is the next step in custom digital shell processing. In collaboration with a leading digital printing technology partner, Unitron Hearing has developed
a revolutionary shell material and 3D printing technology that is the fastest, most accurate custom shell manufacturing process available today.
How
U.shells Are Made
1. An impression of the ear is made and mailed to Unitron Hearing. |
2. A high-resolution scanner records up to 100,000 data points from the ear impression to create a 3D digital point cloud. |
3. The 3D digital model is customized for shell style, part placement and venting options, using rapid shell manufacturing (RSM) software, to create the smallest shell possible. |
4. The digital model is compared to the original ear impression to ensure accuracy and fit. Once the digital model has passed a strict quality check, it is sent to a rapid 3D digital printer. |
5. The rapid 3D digital printer uses a digital light projector (DLP) that generates images of the model in 100 micron layers. These images are projected through a special liquid material that hardens when exposed to the DLP light. Multiple U.shells are built in one batch, layer by layer, until the final shells are complete. |
6. The Unitron Hearing custom hearing instrument is built, tested, and delivered promptly to your hearing practice.
